Again, Collins' Katniss should dominate the dreams of every teen girl who ever dared to be different.
Beyond the expert world building, the acute social commentary and the large cast of fully realized characters, there's action, violence, romance and some amount of hope in a story readers will find completely engrossing.
Stellar, imaginative writing.
Collins has done that rare thing. She has written a sequel that improves upon the first book. As a reader, I was happy to be back in Panem, back in the head of Katniss Everdeen.
Katniss is, again, Panem's biggest badass and an emotional wreck. How could she be otherwise? Katniss is a raw nerve, and Collins's skill at characterization makes the reader feel every bit of her pain.
This sequel has enough action to please Hunger Games fans and leaves enough questions tantalizingly unanswered for readers to be desperate for the next installment.
